(Filipino Advent Mass) SIMBANG GABI actually means “Dawn Mass”. In the Philippines, people wake up at 4:00 AM to attend the 9-day Novena and offer votive mass to the Blessed Virgin Mary as she awaits the Birth of Our Lord. It is the spiritual preparation for Christmas when the faithful completes the novena. Filipinos all over the world continue to observe the longest celebration of Christmas. In the United States, parishes that observe SIMBANG GABI do so in accordance to the reality of their parish. Simbang Gabi is a meaningful tradition that dates back in 1869. It was brought in the Philippines by Spanish friars. Today. Simbang Gabi is celebrated in many parts of the world where Filipinos reside. They bring faith traditions with them where ever they go.
