As your pastor I’m choosing to share some disturbing news with you. The following is a statement from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles:
Fr. Christopher Cunningham has been out of ministry since 2005 after the Archdiocese received and investigated allegations of boundary violations, which are unrelated to the current criminal matter. An announcement was made to his parish community in 2005 regarding his removal from ministry for boundary violations.
The Archdiocese was first informed through a media inquiry of an allegation of sexual abuse involving a minor in May 2015 when a civil lawsuit was filed, the Archdiocese was not aware of any information concerning these allegations prior to being advised of the civil lawsuit.
A number of you may remember the events surrounding Chris Cunningham’s removal from St. Louise Parish over 15 years ago. Some of you may have become parishioners at HNM Parish because of these events.
News of his recent arrest may have stirred up uncomfortable emotions in you. Please know that I and our Parish Staff members are here to support you in the aftermath of this and any other acts of misconduct by anyone in the Church.
We walk in faith together.
Fr. Chris, ss.cc.
