Stewardship Council - A Mission Based Ministry
Stewardship as a Way of Parish Life
Stewardship? What’s that, you ask?? Well simply put, stewardship is a term used by parishes around the world that refers to the work that the parish does. For example, a volunteer is a person who gives of their time freely at the parish to further the commitment of our mission statement. They use their time wisely so as not to over-commit or take time away from other important activities in their life. They are really good STEWARDS of their time.
Another person might use their God-given talents in some part of ministry, again to further our mission statement. They might be a teacher or an architect or a musician or an event planner who puts on great parties. When they share their God-given gifts here at the parish, they are known as good STEWARDS of their talents.
And then, there is all of us. Each time you put your envelope in the offertory collection basket, or you give to Together in Mission, or you give a financial gift to a parish that has just suffered a great natural disaster, you are a good STEWARD of your God-given treasure. You are furthering the mission statement of Holy Name of Mary! And because of this, we are all good stewards in one way or another. And for that, we are grateful!!
Gathered with Mary in the Eucharist,
we are called to live the love of Jesus.
Holy Name of Mary Mission Statement
There is an International Catholic Stewardship Council* that serves parishes like ours to help us further our mission statement. Each year some of our HNM Staff attends this conference to learn more about what it means to BE a stewardship parish. HNM is definitely a stewardship parish.
With that said, we want to become a more intentional stewardship parish by growing our gifts of time, talent and treasure for the benefit of others. We would like to kick off the New Year of 2022 with a Stewardship Council of our own so that we can move to becoming a “mission parish” out in the world. We here at Holy Name of Mary can do this because of your commitment to our mission statement.
So, if this is something that you think you might want to learn more about, please contact us. We will begin taking your recommendations about who should serve on this council so that we can start working on becoming a mission parish.
As your parish staff, we have committed ourselves to the creation of a Stewardship Council by October 1st and to begin the intentional work of stewardship by January 1st. So we will need your help to make this happen! Please keep this project in your prayers that, together, we will create a stewardship team that will work on behalf of our parish dreams to BE a more intentional stewardship parish!
Thank you for all you do as a good steward here at HNM. We could not do the things we do without every single one of you, whether it is through your time, your treasure or your prayers for continued success of our parish mission.
In gratitude for all you do,
Fr. Chris and Lani
*The Mission of the International Catholic Stewardship Council is to foster an environment in which stewardship is understood, accepted and practiced throughout the Catholic Church. Its primary concern continues to be to promote a biblical concept of Christian stewardship in which generosity of time, talent, and treasure are construed as God-given gifts.
