At Holy Name of Mary Parish, we honor rites of passages such as this to support our young women and young men around one’s 15th birthday (Quince Años) in what is referred to as a quinceañera / o. While this is not one of the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church, it is a pivotal moment when a young person realizes that he / she has matured enough to take on more responsibilities in life.

Many families in our area request Quince Años celebrations for their teens. Because of the very busy nature of our parish’s schedule, we are only able to schedule these celebrations on particular dates -which are listed below.

An important note: Please refer to the dates noted below when planning your Quince Años celebration. Please do not put deposit money on a reception venue before finalizing your date with our church. We cannot guarantee any date (even those listed below) if you have already booked a venue.

We have made a number of changes to our Quince Años guidelines. These are the most up-to-date guidelines for Holy Name of Mary Parish:

Quince Años celebrations will be scheduled on the third Saturdays of each month at 11:00 am. Because of other parish events, there will be no Quince Años celebrations scheduled in the months of February, April, May, and December at Holy Name of Mary Parish. There will be no exceptions.

Even if your teen’s birthday is closer to a different date than the 3rd Saturday of the month (or during a month when we do not schedule Quince Años celebrations), these are the only dates available for these celebrations at HNM Parish.

You may schedule your teen’s celebration up to 2 years in advance. These are the only available dates for HNM Quince Años celebrations, each at 11:00 am.

Because of the number of families requesting Quince Años celebrations, it is most likely that there will be more than one person celebrating his / her Quince Años. There could be up to 3 young people honored in each celebration.

You may request the language that best suits your family’s needs (English, Spanish, or bilingual English and Spanish) for your celebration. Given the needs of the other families who are celebrating Quince Años with your teenager, most of our celebrations will be celebrated bilingually.

It is imperative that Quince Años celebrants and your families arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the celebration (10:15 am). Families will be placed in a section of our church when you arrive. Again, because of our busy parish schedule, our Quince Años celebrations will begin promptly at 11:00 am. Please encourage your family members and guests to arrive on time.

HNM Quince Años celebrations will be in the form of a Communion Service, not a Mass. Anyone in your family and guests who is Roman Catholic may receive Holy Communion. It is wise that people prepare themselves prior to this celebration (e.g., celebration of Confession as needed) if they choose to receive Holy Communion.

The Church fee for HNM Quince Años celebrations is $1,000. This covers all the church-related fees for our parish musician and use of the church. A non-refundable deposit of $200 is to be paid when you book the Quince Años celebration with HNM Parish.

The balance of the Church fee must be paid no later than 30 days prior to your Quince Años celebration.

You will receive important information from HNM when you book the Quince Años celebration. Included will also be an envelope in which you may place a donation for the deacon or priest who celebrates. A customary donation is $100, but you may give as you please as a thank you for his service. You may give this to the deacon or priest directly on the day of your celebration.

No outside musicians (e.g., mariachi groups, soloists, etc.) will be allowed.

Each family is invited to bring one (1) photographer or videographer to this celebration. We do not allow the use of flash or extra lighting during our celebrations. A parish staff member will speak with each photographer or videographer to instruct them about appropriate boundaries for doing their job (e.g., not being intrusive in the celebration). After the celebration, you will have 30 minutes to take photos and videos both inside our church and elsewhere on the church property. Usually another church activity will take place after this one and we need to respect the time parameters of each church celebration.

Careful attention is asked when family members and guests are choosing their attire for HNM Parish celebrations. This would include the choice of dress that your female teenager wants to wear. No exposed cleavage are permitted.

Each teen being honored may bring a bouquet or flowers to present to the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is not required.

We invite you to refer to the guidelines of our US Catholic bishops for more information about Quince Años celebrations at:  https://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/sacraments-and-sacramentals/sacramentals-blessings/persons/quinceanera

We look forward to celebrating this important cultural rite of passage with your teen and your family. Please feel free to contact Mr. Eddie Gil at HNM Parish Office if you have any questions (909) 599-1243 x 121.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Chris
